Description Dominic Lyons 2011-01-24 18:20:05 UTC
Version: 4.6 (using KDE 4.5.95)
OS: Linux

Kontact 4.6 seems to start re-syncing (and/or re-downloading) Mails from Google Mail until Google Mails gives a "bandwidth limit exceed" error and I can access Google Mail only per Webinterface until the next day.

As this didn't happen on earlier versions of Kontact (2.5 without Akonadi) I guess Akonadi is the cause.

On my Kolab account this problem doesn't occur but at first the mailbox is very little (only for testing purposes at the moment) and secondly I have no limits (at least no manual defined ones). On the other handy my GMail account somehow bigger (1,5 GB) so re-downloading over and over again is really a problem. I don't know what limits Google set but I assume that it will be larger than the postbox which means that the postbox was re-downloaded multiple times as the error occurred.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Configure Kontact/KMail to acces a GMail account using IMAP, start Kontact and wait...

Kubuntu 10.10, Kontact Beta 4 on KDE 4.6 RC2 and Akonadi-server 1.4.95 from Kubuntu Beta PPA http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/beta/ubuntu/

It happened again today. The exact message is:
Login failed, server replied: A000002 NO Account exceeded
   bandwidth limits. ( Failure ) [ ALERT ]

I'll try to deactivate the offline option as a workaround, but for today the limit is reached.

I forgot to add that Akonadi shows an error that the password is wrong. I guess the error message mentioned above comes from the imap-server (and so it is the real problem) but Akonadi doesn't interpret the error but shows a standard error message.

I have the same problem. My Gmail account is ~1.2GB and Kmail tries to download it multiple times per day. When I catch it, I restart Akonadi to stop it from exceeding the bandwidth limit.

I think I've been seeing this behaviour since the first beta of KDEPIM 4.6 (before that I was using the Akonadi-less 4.4 branch), and throughout all KDE SC 4.6 betas, rc-s and final.

Is it still happening for you with 4.7.x? I've been unable to reproduce that one, it just seem to download the flags only as expected not the actual mails (apart from the new ones of course).

In case you still experience this please feel free to reopen.

How big is your mailbox ?

On GMail webui, is the "All messages" label shown in IMAP ? (in such a case, KMail will have to download all your messages * 2
