Delete the main panel ( there should not be any panel on KDE desktop and then try to add 1 panel on desktop)

The crash can be reproduced every time.

Please update at least to KDE SC 4.4.5 (or KDE SC 4.5.5) and check if it happens again. If it does, you may need to install some packages to get more information from the crash.

the answer is to upgrade; this problem was fixed in later releases.
