When I type in a contacts name 90% of the groups show that the contact isn't in that group, by removing the "expand" instead I'd like an option to hide the groups or just have that be the default when "show empty groups" is unchecked. as these groups are empty as far as the search is concerned.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
