The open file dialog should allow you to quickly find the file to open.
If one has plenty of file in a folder, he is currently able to enter the first letters of the diesired file to move selection to it.
If the files are prefixed with number, for instance, the task is difficult as none of the sort method can help find the desired file.

Even if this could seem to be a specific case, a way to quickly search through listed files in some other way than just the first letters might be useful for an open file dialog. Best use imho is to show a field in bottom (or replacing the location field) when some shortcut is pressed.
