I am on 4.6 final now, nothing changed during this time. More clarifications on this issue. 1. Now I know why I receive 640x480 during boot - I have 2 monitors - the 1st one is normal monitor (non-wide) and the 2nd one is TV (widescreen) - connected with DVI. When system boots, X.org tries to find the resolution which is supported by both screens and comes to 640x480 cause with all other options screen proportions do not match (more details on this issue is here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32988). This explains why I receive 640x480 in kdm and also in KDE desktop when login 1st time. If I remove TV cable and reboot, I would receive normal 1280x1024 during boot and on desktop automatically. 2. With KMS enabled when I login and change screen resolutions from KDE control center, then reboot I receive 640x480 in KDM (which is partially ok due to the reasons described above), and then screen resolution I usually changed to 1280x1024 on my main monitor during loading desktop process. But other options for 2nd screen (TV) are randomly lost - sometimes it loads with its normal resolution, sometimes with minimal 640x480 - can't predict that, and it just never remembers its configured position to be "right of" the main screen - it always load in "clone" mode - and I always have to reset it manually. 3. With KMS turned off (kernel is booted with "nomodeset" options - I have to live without it due to another bug not directly related to this topic: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33146) I constantly receive 640x480 also after login, so even this setting is not loaded. This happens every time - if I reboot with KMS - I have 1280x1024 on login, reboot without KMS - receive 640x480 after login. So, I see 3 relatively different problems here: 1. KDE screen resolution config module should allow to save setting system-wide (switch to root mode), so I could save system-wide config once and forever, so even KDM would also have 1280x1024 just after reboot. 2. KDE screen resolution config module should try to handle its user-space config in a more accurate way with KMS enabled, cause this is rather annoying to reconfigure screen resolution and positions after each login. 3. KDE screen resolution config module should load its settings even when KMS is not enabled. I am experiencing similar problems, described in this report, using Dell LCD SP2309W as DVI-0 at 2048x1152 (Auto) & Samsung SyncMaster 730BF as DVI-1 at 1280x1024 (Auto) resolutions. Video card (lspci output): 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc R580 [Radeon X1900 XT] (Primary) 01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc R580 [Radeon X1900 XT] (Secondary) Problems are: 1. at boot only Samsung display's resolution is recognized; 2. at boot system does not see 2 displays, only one is shown in display settings 3. only after fiddling with running system's display cables it suddenly recognizes second display; 4. settings (resolution, relative location, etc.) must be restored manually after each boot. Thank you for your bug report or feature request. Unfortunately, we did not have a maintainer for the "krandr" components, which are used to manage displays and monitors in the KDE Workspaces. The "krandr" components has been superseded by "KScreen" in newer releases of the KDE Workspaces. It is compatible with all versions since 4.11, and is also used with Plasma 5. Please check with your distribution how to update to KScreen. If this issue or feature request is still applicable to KScreen version 1.0.5 or newer, please add a comment. We will then reassign this ticket to KScreen developers. If you are already using KScreen to manage displays or monitors, and found a different bug or need a specific feature, please create a new ticket for "KScreen" product in this bugzilla using this link: https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=KScreen (This is an automatic message from the KDE Bug Triaging Team) |
