Description Leo Savernik 2011-01-10 11:30:07 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS: Linux

Last year I created a symbolic link on plasma-desktop to link to a file somewhere deep in the directory hierarchy. I did it by dropping the file onto the desktop, which created said symbolic link for me.

Now it's 2011 and I wanted to change the symbolic link to the respective document for 2011. However, instead of wading through a deeply nested directory hierarchy to find the new document, I instead wanted to change the symbolic link directly.

Here comes the bug: It is not possible. While one can change the visual name of the symbolic link and its permissions, there are *no* provisions to change the link *target*.

Interestingly, kdelibs does provide means to change the link target. If I right-click a link target in dolphin, select "Properties", the tab "General" contains an editable line "Links to" which can be adjusted.

Therefore, plasma is inconsistent here. (I perfectly know well that plasma's symbolic links are not represented as real links, but as a user I don't care)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have a link on plasma desktop.
2. Open Settings
3. Navigate to "General" or "Permissions" tab and look for "Links to" input line.

Actual Results:
No such line

Expected Results:
Link target can be changed.

even if looks different, is the exact same issue of one of the oldest bugs
