Currently in KMail 4.6 beta 3 I have two SMTP servers set up, smtp.google.com and mail.alexandervanloon.nl. In Settings... > Configure KMail > Accounts > Sending mail.alexandervanloon.nl is displayed as the default to use.

However, every time I send an e-mail smtp.google.com is used as default, unless I tell KMail to explicitly use mail.alexandervanloon.nl by using the dropdown menu of the Send button. It

The encoding bug in rekonq with KDE SC 4.6 RC1 strikes me again. Here is the complete last paragraph:

It's as if smtp.google.com is the default and not the other way around. This is always reproducible. I should also note that in the dropdown menu of the Send button, smtp.google.com is located above mail.alexandervanloon.nl.

Hej Alexander,

can you make sure that you don't have specified smtp.google.com as special transport for your default identity? (Configure -> Identities -> Modify -> Advanced)
In this case the default transport is overwritten by the one specified in the identity.

I just verified and smtp.gmail.com (I figured out I that smtp.gmail.com was the right address and that was why I couldn't send e-mails with GMail, but that's a different story) was indeed configured as the special transport.

But somehow KMail must have set that by itself, I'm quite certain I never touched that setting.

possible, might be a porting bug. However storing the special transport should work fine now, I committed a patch yesterday.

I have just come across this problem (with Kmail 1.13.3).
I had defined a new 'Send' account, but not as Default.
   However, the 'Special Transport' box for the Default account had been set as the new account - but NOT BY ME!
 Deselecting that box restored Kmail to using the Default account.

This is a nasty hole to fall into...
