Which video hardware do you have and which driver does it use ? Please start Kopete from the console an post the output (as attachment, if it is too long). I have an ATI Radeon R100 VIVO 64MB, and I'm using the open source ati driver/mesa(nomodeset on boot). I will start kopete from the console in a few days - I'm in chicago for the holidays, and thus about 1.000 miles from the machine in question:-) Hope yours was good. Output in a few days. What about input devices like webcams, TV-Cards and so on ? ;) No problem:-) I do have a hampag(sp?) pvr-150, but its not connected to anything at this time - just gave up TV.
