Comparing sizes in .kde4/share/apps/kmail/mail/inbox/cur/ in dolphin with kmail2 varies heavily.
inbox kmail2: 623 mails, 3.6 MiB
inbox/cur dolphin: 608 files (8.2 MiB)
inbox/new "      :   8 "     (26.0 KiB)

I copied the 7 missing mails in KMail-Maildir from KMail Folders > inbox to Local Folders > Posteingang (inbox), then back to KMail Folders > inbox:
inbox/new dolphin: 15 files (112.0 KiB)

The mail count of kmail2 and dolphin is identical now.

Sizes still not consistent !

Works again in kmail-4.4.8-261.1
