Description Simon 2010-11-28 22:09:47 UTC
Version: 2.0.0 (using KDE 4.5.4)
OS: Linux

gphoto2 supports tethered shooting with the option --capture-tethered. This is usually used when the Cam is connected to a PC with a (longer) USB cable; The images taken will be transferred to the PC directly and can be viewed in higher resolution (and by more people).

As gphoto2 only downloads the image, there are some scripts around which also display incoming images, like this one: http://rian76.blogspot.com/2009/09/tethering-from-your-nikon-to-your-linux.html

But for digikam users it would certainly be more convenient to simply use digikam for this :)

I guess digikam can not or does not want to rely on gphoto2, but I also guess that it sould be easy to test for its existance on runtime?

Anyway, would be great to see this in digikam! :)

Reproducible: Always

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.36-1.slh.2-aptosid-amd64
Compiler: cc

Capture mode from digiKAm Camera Interface is not enough ?

I don't know. I tried to use it, but then the D90 just seemed to open and the dialog showed «capturing» in the progress dialog about 10 times per second, but nothing happened.
If it simply takes a picture when pressing a button on the PC, then no, it is not enough. This would actually even be contraproductive ;)
This video might explain tethered shooting (cannot listen to it right now, but from looking at it it seems to be about what I imagine): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObqWe9ZFMcI

Rawstudio Tethered Shooting
Comment 4 Dmitri Popov 2011-06-01 23:00:22 UTC
The digiKam Camera interface is pretty limited. Functionality similar to Tethered Shooting feature in Rawstudio (see the attached screenshot) would a great addition.

There are three enhancement requests for this in the database:
Bug 186574
Bug 207936
Bug 258227

Should they be marked as duplicates of only one ?
