adding tabbing, stacking, grid or floating group not possible to a grouping panel isnt possible, only flow group works

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
add new grouping panel, select 'add groups', try to drag tabbing, stacking, grid or floating group to grouping panel

Actual Results:
grouping panel doesnt accept drag => cant add tabbing, stacking, grid or floating group

Expected Results:
grouping panel accept drag => tabbing, stacking, grid or floating group added after drop

Actually that's wanted. I don't think it makes sense those groups make much sense in a panel, since they require quite some space to work and the panel usually has very little.
It can be tweaked though.
Comment 2 Christoph Thielecke 2010-11-28 17:02:36 UTC
Grid should make sense. If the panel height is high enough, it shoudl be possible to have 2 or more rows.

Also, not make sense types should be hidden for panel.
Comment 3 Giulio Camuffo 2010-12-16 15:12:56 UTC
Maybe the grid can fit in the panel actually, i'll do some tests.

"Also, not make sense types should be hidden for panel."

That doesn't make much sense, because when you click "add groups" from the panel you can still add groups to the desktop, and vice-versa, which accepts all types of groups.

If it doesn't fit in the panel, I think it would be good to do what other widgets do and reduce to an icon. Clicking the icon produces a popup of the group. Actually, for me being able to do this would be the primary reason for putting a group in the panel. It would let me have collections of widgets that are easily accessible.

This sort of popup behavior could have other uses. For instance if you make a group really small on the desktop, it could reduce to an icon, allowing you to put a large group on the desktop without it taking much space.

Hi,
today I tried to add grid group to my panel on the left side of the screen. The idea is to have wide panel containing more columns with application icons.

E.g. for panel with 60px there is a space for two columns with 22px icons inside. Without grouping, icons are too big and needs a lot of space and drastically reduce number of icons on panel.

I was very confused that there is not possible to add grid group to the panel. I though I made something wrong. In fact, I didn't understood the concept of the grouping panel. Seems useless and confusing to me.

I would like this too.

Actualy i'm using a panel on the right, automaticaly hiden and expanded to its maximum size. Looks likde the image attached. If I could scroll it to acess more applets or have tabs, that would be awesome. A realy original mockup. Think of it : one tab with kickoff filling the entire space, one with the notifications, batterie status, etc, one with a rss feed ... Something as cool as what we can have on the desktop but not hidding my pony wallpapers and accessible even if the desktop isn't.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
