The crash looks like bug 226263, which was caused by a package version mismatch. Ensure that you have all the plasma related packages installed and updated (at the same version) Regards Dear Dario (or other KDE 'bugger'), Thanks for your answer. I 'solved' the problem by re-installing/upgrading my laptop from openSUSE 11.2 to 11.3. Meanwhile I have learned that the not-working synaptiks tool is probably due to a drivers/kernel module problem which still awaits a solution. I was advised to be patient... So I installed synaptiks, with no better result. Then I also installed gsynaptics which required vendor change installs for some Plasma components, and then Plasma crashed at startup.
