With the new bluedevil bluetooth stack, KDE can mount storage devices wirelessly using the bluetooth obexftp kio slave.  However, digikam does not include devices mounted using obexftp in the list of devices it can import pictures from.  Considering how cameras are practically standard on phones now, I think being able to wirelessly transfer pictures off your phone using digikam would be a great feature.  

Digikam should probably use the bluetooth:/ kio slave to get a list of devices and also let someone manually select a device, since the list does not work perfectly yet.

kipi-plugins has a tool to play with all KDE kioslave. Check in digiKam Tools menu entry...

oups sorry, look Import and Export menu entries from digiKam, not Tools.

It's "export/Import to/from remote computer".

I am using that for the time being, but as far as I can tell it doesn't provide the additional capabilities found in normal import tool like automatic album creation, renaming, and remembering which files were already imported.  

For these purposes a bluetooth-enabled phone isn't really a remote computer, it is a camera, so having the tools used for importing pictures from a camera is important.
