Description missive 2010-10-09 18:10:30 UTC
Version: 4.5.1 (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

When the text in an input line is longer than the displayed line (eg a very long set of search terms in the text input line on google.com) trying to select a portion of the text using the mouse is not working properly.

Starting a selection with the mouse and then dragging outside of the text input does not scroll the text, so it is only possible to select the visible text.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Go to google.com
Put a long piece of text in to the input. For instance:
a1111 b2222 c3333 d4444 e5555 f6666 g7777 h8888 i9999 j0000 k1111 l2222 m3333
You will probably be able to see from about f to the end.
Using the mouse, try to select from h to the beginning of the line.

Actual Results:
Starting the selection at h and then sliding the mouse to the left only selects visible text.

Even with the mouse past the left end of the input box, the text does not scroll to the left.

Expected Results:
The text should scroll once the mouse moves past the end of the box, extending the selection in that direction.

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-25-generic
Compiler: cc
