Version:           unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1)

Its not possible to enable a colorized background for the text below the desktop icons. This is nessary if the user has a background picture with different colors. Then the text can become unreadable.
It should be possible to enable a color background of the text (instead transparent) and to specify a color for it.

There is the possibility to add a shadow to the text. But that is not what I want. I want to specify a background for the text. The example picture below.

Theoreticlly its a wish but I guess a bug because the text can become unreadable and the user chant change it. That was the reason why I classify as bug.

Excuse me, where can I de/activate the shadow around the text of the desktop elements? I have searched in the desktop settings in the desktop contextmenu and in systemsettings in the Look & Feel sections but cannot find it. I only can find it for the folderview (and even there it is not possible to set the color for the shadow).

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

I'm afraid this is by design. We use a shadow to ensure text contrast rather than a contrasting colored background. If you believe this is sub-par, I would encourage you to get involved with the design team: https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/design.
