It's possible to attach a window to an activity, and that's great.  But I'd like it to be the default (or at least to be able to configure it to be the default on my computer)  It's the default for a window to be on one virtual desktop, and I can't really see the value added in having a window on the same desktop of all of your activities by default.

I'll second this. You can configure different programs to eg. start on desktop 2. You should also be able to additionally configure it to start on activity <insert name>.
