Thanks for the bug report! I'm not sure if I understand what your problem is. Is "K" Konqueror or KDE for you? If I understand you correctly, you want to enter a web-address to be opened. You can either open Konqueror and then enter the address in the location bar (below the menu bar), or you can press Alt-F2 and enter the address there. Does that work for you? (In reply to comment #0) > From my point of view, you are hiding (purpously ?) some trivial steps from > newbies, so they can't disturb your nice K-world with stupid questions, right ? This is not the case. Dear Frank, thank you very much of your fast response.
Some clarifications; K = Konqueror now to me and I'm running K under
Ubuntu as you have seen from log.
"Alt-F2" starts "running application" of Ubuntu, and keyboard short-cuts
of K doesn't include "Alt-F2".
1.
In my trials two days ago I run K as normal user and then I can see the
address-bar, hi-light it, BUT I wasn't able to write anything.
2.
BUT now I tested it starting with "gksu Konqueror" and I was able to
write to the address-bar !
Is something missing in my installation (after re-installation with
Synaptic K worked similarly as before) ?
Or should I use it always as superuser ?
Similar behaviour was also with "kdiff3", it started to make selected
actions after I start it with "gksu" also. As normal user it made
comparisons, that's all.
---------------
Probably my installation lacks some basic items of KDE ?
Best Regards, jorma veijanen.

No, it should work for any user, of course :-) > Probably my installation lacks some basic items of KDE ? Maybe. Do you run Konqueror in a KDE session or in another desktop environment? Dear Frank,
I'm using Konqueror in Ubuntu / Gnome session/desktop.
what do you recommend to improve situation ?

I think there was a bug report about problems when starting KDE apps from a non-KDE session, but I can't find it right now. You could try to start a KDE session - KDE apps should work fine then. It could be that it also works in Gnome after you've done that once, but I'm not sure. [Comment from a bug triager] There is a related report with a similar trace: bug 245574 (most of the backtrace matches if we consider the empty spaces), also the "setting" situations matches. @Frank: what do you think ? Regards Thanks DarĂo - I think you're right. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 245574 *** |
