There should be a way of preventing specific notifications from being archived under the little i-icon in systemtray.
For example: No one wants to archive the “xyz has read your online message” or “network adapter a is now being used“ and they clutter your notifications history, even if you set them to disappear automatically (whose time span I do not know).
This should be done in the manage notifications window where you can set the type (like play sound, flash window button, etc.), so the user can customize the notifcations he wants to have archived and which ones are not.

In 4.9 at least, all notifications with a low or normal urgency (but not with critical urgency) will be removed from the "history" automatically after 20 minutes.
The application defines the urgency, not the user.

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.
