- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Amarok usually starts fine so here is what has happening to kde:
Xorg was using large amounts of memory (470Mb) so i decided to start closing apps to see if it would make a diffence.  Amarok was closed to system tray, and when i right clicked it and hit quit plasma-desktop crashed (dont have the backtrace sorry) and amarok either crashed or quit along with it.  The only app i was runing that i usually dont run was audacity -- it was leveling some audio.  After the crash, plasma-desktop restarted (X now was using only 230Mb) and seems to be fine.  Amarok however, will not start and crashes with this backtrace every time i try to start it.  (I have not logged out and back in since the crash).

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
Xorg's high memory usage -- seems to be linked to plasma-desktop.  probably another bug altogether.

The crash can be reproduced some of the time.

Try: system settings->multimidia->backend phonon-xine in top. Try  change he order of sound devices...maybe works for you

Please do not add comments to closed bugs. Also there is a workaround in bug 245513 at comment #27 for that.
