following instructions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1117283 to uninstall the changes I made previously so that I can now compile ffmpeg etc. according to instructions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=786095.

upon completing the [code]sudo apt-get remove ffmpeg libavcodec-*-5*[code] the daemon crashed
