*** Bug 264415 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 264542 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** This bug has a subject line referring to authentication. However, many parts of systems settings that require authentication work just fine for me. The only problem is the login screen 'control panel'. I can authenticate to manage fonts and users just fine. And if I run kdesu systemsettings it still crashes on the login screen control panel. Nearly all the recent dup reports refer explicitly to login screen. When can this become 'confirmed'? Is is unique to kubuntu? No, same problem for me on Arch Linux. My stack trace was from Fedora 14, so it's not unique to Kubuntu. We can add my distro openSUSE 11.3 running kde 4.6.0 release,I've just updated and enabled auto login without a crash. The procedure is different you now enter your root password when you save your settings. Pity no one told us it was fixed. I just revisited my original bug 258315 and tried the phonon setting and wasn't even asked for authorization no crash but the openSUSE kde team have a habit of working around kde authorization bugs. My original bug for comparison (4.6 Beta1 was a bumpy ride so far 4.6 release is as smooth as silk) Application: systemsettings (1.0) KDE Platform Version: 4.5.80 (4.6 Beta1) Qt Version: 4.7.1 Operating System: Linux 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop x86_64 Distribution: "openSUSE 11.3 (x86_64)" -- Information about the crash: - What I was doing when the application crashed: My kde sound has stopped working and I was in system settings phonon, and AFAIR the crash occurred when I checked the "Show advanced devices" checkbox due to the fact that no devices were shown. I had to manually start kded in order to login via the Crash Assistant and after starting System Settings again the "Show advanced devices" checkbox is checked and my sound devices are visible again. *** Bug 264776 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 264955 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Bug 264955 shows that "KAuth::Polkit1Backend::actionExists" uses a local event loop (see bt #129 and #66), which can also cause a recursive invokation of modules. *** Bug 265166 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 265573 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 266201 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 266230 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 266306 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 266493 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 267119 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Git commit f51be49c3867e9845ba07a7c1c1e54f371371146 by Ben Cooksley. Committed on 25/02/2011 at 10:38. Pushed by bcooksley into branch 'master'. HACK Prevent KAuth backends which use local event loops from crashing System Settings due to a double module load. Will show the layouting and other initialisation of control modules to use though unfortunately. Correct fix should ultimately be done in the KAuth backend by removing it's local event loop. *** Bug 272761 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Git commit 474e6032270c25e27449a5ee88700c6558d9cd6d by Christoph Feck, on behalf of Ben Cooksley. Committed on 25/02/2011 at 10:38. Pushed by cfeck into branch 'KDE/4.6'. HACK Prevent KAuth backends which use local event loops from crashing System Settings due to a double module load. Will show the layouting and other initialisation of control modules to use though unfortunately. Correct fix should ultimately be done in the KAuth backend by removing it's local event loop.
