I think "kfile" was the wrong component. This probably is a problem with a file view component of dolphin ? The file dialog does not contain any Dolphin code -> moving back to kfile ;-) Martin, kfile is the right component, not kdelibs. This is fixed as of KDE Frameworks 5.45; the preview returns to showing what's selected the moment it's no longer over another file. It's not fixed as of KDE Frameworks 5.45 Thanks for confirming. I found a way to reproduce this: the mouse has to leave the viewport *without* passing over any of the blank background, and then the preview won't change back the way it should.
