Version:           1.4.0 (using KDE 4.4.5) 
OS:                Linux

Especially when dragging from a folder containing around 500 images. The CPU goes to 100%. 

Sorry that I cannot be more precise about when it happens.
It does NOT happen if you try to reproduce it for a bug report, only otherwise.

which process is using the CPU?

I could not reproduce this bug anymore since the report. I'm not sure whether this bug is still valid.
