as a matter of fact when a file is a true zip file dolphin semms to open the file and displays the contents in the panel, then the file(s) in the packed file can be viewed. I don't know if this is the intended behaviour but it differs from what it used to be, which was ark handling all the files it was associated with (notice that dolphin is still passing rar files to ark). Problem (and a huge annoyance) is that 1)once dolphin opened the zip file, the folders panel is gone so you cannot copy or move the file(s) in the zip file to another folder and 2)when one returns to the previous view the folders panel is reset to the default (only folders in the users home folder are expanded) so one needs to expand the folders one was working with again. Just in case the info wasnt included before Dolphin version is 1.5 Using KDE Development Platform 4.4.95 (KDE 4.4.95 (KDE 4.5 >= 20100723)) Thanks for the bug report. Could you attach a file here which shows the problematic behaviour (i.e., crash/empty panel) when opened in Dolphin? Some further remarks: (In reply to comment #0) > Isn't Ark supposed to handle the packed files? Those file extensions are rightly associated with ark. Maybe you have enabled "Open archives as folder" in the "Navigation" section of the Dolphin Settings? (In reply to comment #1) > Problem (and a huge annoyance) is that 1)once dolphin opened the zip file, the > folders panel is gone so you cannot copy or move the file(s) in the zip file to > another folder If I understand correctly, maybe this is bug 161663. This is the behaviour I can reproduce on KDE 4.4.5: 1) create a .rar file 2) rename it to .zip 3) click on the file 4) dolphin will open a white page but with an error message on the status bar (something like "the file format is not managed") You can press BACK or UP and continue to browse the file system. IMHO it is correct. What do you think? P.S: The opposite (a .zip file renamed to .rar) will open an empty ark window I cannot reproduce this behavior with Dolphin 17.12.3. If I create a .rar archive and rename the extension to .zip, then click on it, Ark will open and try to decompress it. This also works, as Ark does not only look at the extension but also at the file header. Closing this issue. |
