What desktop and window manager do you use? I can't reproduce this here using KDE SC 4.4.92 with KWin on Kubuntu 10.04. I use KDE 4.4.4 with KWin - default installation from Debian testing (Squeeze). It seems to be a khotkeys bug, because Alt+Shift+number combination does not work for me also in KWin shortcuts. Maybe it was fixed there in some release after 4.4.4? I doubt that, as it always worked here. Maybe something is wrong in your installation, but anyway, this doesn't belong to Amarok.
