You can give all your contacts custom display names that will be shown instead of their screennames, but it seems implssible to do this for oneself. Hence, one is always identified by one's screen name in conversations.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
