My home directories are automounted on /home from a relatively slow NAS device (NSLU-2).

When I upgraded from Kubuntu Karmic to Lucid, I got following problem. At the first login after the PC is started up, I get following error messages and my login fails.

Jul  3 11:56:33 cobra kdm: :0 '[3123]: Cannot update authorization file in home dir /home/frank
Jul  3 11:56:33 cobra kdm: :0 '[3123]: Cannot chdir to frank's home /home/frank: No such file or directory

When I login for the second time everything goes well.

I suppose the maximum time kdm waits for the home directory is reduced, but I can not find such setting in for example kdmrc.

Version of kdm: 4:4.4.2-0ubuntu14

kdm doesn't wait at all, and it's not its task to do so. you may use an appropriately configured PAM module or an Xstartup script to get around the problem.
