Bug 243296

Summary: Kopete treats messages received in a chat window that does not have focus as a "new discussion"

Description tnemeth 2010-06-30 23:25:28 UTC
Version: 1.0.0 (using Devel)
OS: Linux

I often use Kopete while doing some other tasks, so I often have to leave the
discussion/chat window in order to code, surf the web, change music track... If
a message arrives when the discussion window doesn't have the focus, the message is treated as if it's a new discussion.

In order to configure notifications, I go to the Notifications panel in the
System Configuration application and I select Kopete. There are only 2
notifications options for new messages (translated from french) : "arriving
message" and "arriving message in the current discussion".

When the chat window does not have focus, the options from the "arriving
message" notification are used instead of the ones in "arriving message in the current discussion".

The goal here is to have a sound and a message in the notification zone for messages starting a new discussion, and only a sound for message in an opened
chat window (even if it has not the focus).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
001. Configure differently the notifications for "arriving messages" and "arriving message in the current discussion"
010. Begin a new discussion with an online contact
011. See what happens when receiving messages while the chat window has the focus
100. See what happens when receiving messages while the chat window doesn't have the focus.

Actual Results:
Message in the opened chat window that doesn't have the focus are treated as if it's a new discussion

Expected Results:
These messages should be treated as if they where just the continuation of a current discussion while the chat window is still opened... Or some other notification options could be added.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32-23-generic
Compiler: cc

It doesn't seem to be still valid: I don't remember the notifications
chiming in when new messages arrive as the message window still has
focus while they are plainly audible when the window doesn't have
    focus.

Seems to be the bug can be closed.
