I connect to my Fedora 13 machine from work using SSH and VNC. When I leave for the day, I shut down all the applications, including KMail and then kill the VNC session by shutting down the VNC server. When I get home and fire up KMail, more often than not, if I don't make sure that everything is shut down, including Akonadi, KMail will hang when I compose a new message and go to send it. I checked just as I was opening KMail tonight, but before I put in my KWallet password, and IMAP was still running more than 4 hours after I shut down KMail and VNC.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Start KMail in a remote desktop session (don't know if it works in anything but VNC) and then shut it down and bring KMail up locally after waiting an hour. My configuration includes 2 IMAP accounts and multiple POP3 accounts. Then go to compose a message.

Actual Results:  
KMail will freeze and be totally unresponsive. You can change between the composer window and the message list, but cannot change folders in the message list.

Expected Results:  
KMail should allow me to compose and send a message as normal.

I have multiple POP3 accounts from different providers. I have a Fastmail.fm account and a SpamCop.net account. Both are IMAP accounts.

I am no longer convinced it's IMAP that's causing the problem. All I know is that after closing KMail in the VNC session and shutting down the VNC server, when I come back to the local console and try to send an email after launching KMail from the local console, about 99% of the time, it hangs until I kill KMail, Akonadi and all POP/IMAP sessions. Once I have done that and restarted KMail all is well until the next day when I log into the local console after a VNC session.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
