I have just tried this on a folder with several very small images (ca. 600x600 jpegs) and there is no problem with them. So it seems to depend on the size of the images marked. Never seen a dysfunction like this. Sound like a problem with your X server installation or something like that... What's your graphic card ? Which driver you use ? I remember some old NVidia dysfunction with KDE4. If you can try to use ATI card. Drivers sound better under Linux.
