Product: [Applications] digikam Reporter: Thomas Damgaard <thomasdn>

Status: RESOLVED FIXED
Severity: normal CC: caulier.gilles, thomasdn

Latest Commit: Version Fixed In: 5.1.0

Description Thomas Damgaard 2010-06-15 09:16:47 UTC
Version:           1.2.0 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS:                Linux

When I have multiple images marked in an album, scrolling down/up becomes very slow. It seems that Digikam repaints all the marked thumbnails several times while scrolling (they blink), while the unmarked thumbnails are not redrawn (does not blink during scroll).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
 * Open Digikam
 * Go to an album with several images (mine had a few hundred)
 * Scroll up and down
 * Take note of the responsiveness while scrolling.
 * Now, mark half of them by dragging a rectangle with the mouse
 * Use the scroll wheel to scroll down.
 * Note that the scrolling is much more unresponsive than without images marked.

Actual Results:
Scrolling becomes slow

Expected Results:
Scrolling with marked images should be just as fast as with no images marked.

I use Kubuntu 10.04 with nouveau driver.
Hardware is:
Thinkpad T61p
2.5 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
Linux malbec 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 22:02:19 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I have just tried this on a folder with several very small images (ca. 600x600 jpegs) and there is no problem with them. So it seems to depend on the size of the images marked.

Never seen a dysfunction like this. Sound like a problem with your X server installation or something like that... What's your graphic card ? Which driver you use ?

Gilles, my graphics card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro FX 570M (rev a1)

I can try with the nvidia-glx driver, when I get home later today.

I remember some old NVidia dysfunction with KDE4. If you can try to use ATI card. Drivers sound better under Linux.

Unfortuneately, I do not have access to an ATI card at the moment.
