I just came across the Terminator application, which offers a terminal with a split screen (multiple consoles in a single window). See here:

Pretty please, can we have this in Konsole (yes, I know about screen).

Did you try using the View->Split View to see if that's what you wanted?

Thanks, Kurt, I missed that as I only superficially looked through the View menu. In Konqueror the split is in the "Window" menu. Oh, the inconsistency!
