Description Rob 2010-05-25 06:15:26 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS: Linux

When I try to enable desktop effects through the system settings dialog box in Kubuntu 10.04, I get an error message saying "Compositing has been suspended by another application..." It will not enable desktop effects. I am using the fglrx driver and fgl_glxgears works fine. The driver is loaded and working well. I can enable desktop effects through the terminal with $ compiz --replace. I just can't enable them through System Settings on this Kubuntu 10.04.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Kickoff Menu/System Settings/Desktop/Enable Desktop Effects

Actual Results:
Compositing will not resume.

Expected Results:
Compositing should work.

compiz is not the same as kwin
disable functionality checks in the advanced tab. if this does not work (or the tab is disabled and unreachable) check the comments on the duplicate to figure howto enable compositing in kwin directly by editing the config files, esp. comment #26
