Description squan 2010-05-24 19:16:30 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.3)
OS: Linux

If in okular loading of a document fails (e.g on KDE session start without network connection) then there is no way in the UI of the okular window to get the URL of the document to be shown.

Since common shortcuts (F5 or Ctrl-R) are not available and URL does not show up in recent documents menu it it not at all possible to load the document later, leaving the user with an empty useles window.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Open document in okular
2) Leave KDE session
3) disconnect network
4) Restart KDE

Actual Results:
Empty okular window with no possibility to load document after network is up

Expected Results:
F5 (and/or Ctrl-R) should load the current document or
recent documents menu should show its URL

Does Okular warn you that the file could not be opened?
Comment 2 squan 2010-07-14 19:32:50 UTC
Yes okular shows a popup with the URL which turns out to be copy-pastable.
Thus it is possible to work around the problem.

Since a secure wireless connection is systematically not yet available at the time the KDE session starts, okular always fails loading PDFs.

As my session has many open PDFs, as a result I get as many notification popups cluttering my desktop (which by the way also makes the taskbars grouping feature fail on okular, even after closing the popups).
By closing the popups it is no longer possible to load the PDFs.

Okular should not disable the "Reload" entry in the "File" menu in case of failed intial loading.

Should this bug be WONTFIX or FIXED, given #2?
Comment 6 squan 2012-01-05 12:46:46 UTC
I'm still hoping that this will get fixed.
The document URL should be shown using File/Properties menu, even if loading failed for whatever reason.

Show me a program that has this behaviour and we'll talk, but what you asking is loading a failed loaded document so you can reload it, pretty non standard if you ask me

User could not find an example in more than 2 years.
