Description Dotan Cohen 2010-05-07 07:53:37 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.3)
Installed from: Unspecified Linux

When moving a recurring event, the event is deleted instead of being moved. To reproduce:
1) Create weekly-recurring event
2) Browse to a later event (such as three weeks into the future)
3) Drag the event to a new date and time
4) Select "Also Future Occurrences"

The event is deleted, not moved. All future occurrences are untouched.
Comment 1 Ferdinand Thommes 2010-05-07 13:37:58 UTC
confirmed with KDE 4.4.3 on debian sid
just moving the event to a different time on the same day works ok.
moving it to a different day deletes the event for that recurrance.
the other recurring events stay intact.
Comment 2 Andreas Mahel 2010-05-08 21:56:27 UTC
Reproduced on OpenSuSE 11.2 / KDE 4.4.3.

To me, this looks like just another facet of bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172464 (see also my comment there)

Moving a weekly recurring event one day forward will move the first possible occurrence of the series to next week.

To test:
1) Create a new event, starting on Tue, recurring for 4 weeks
2) Go to the second occurrance, and move it to Wed
3) Select "Also Future Occurrances"

=> This week's event will disappear, however, there will still be 3 future events, starting from the following week. Together with the "pat" event from the previous week, there are still all 4 events around - just not where the user might expect them.

I'd vote for this bug to be marked as a duplicate of

Yes, sometimes the event is moved only by the hour (not by the day) and sometimes it is deleted.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of korganizer (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 5 Andreas Mahel 2016-09-25 12:12:13 UTC
Hm...
I tried to reproduce the behavior using the steps I had outlined in comment 2, and at least the event was not deleted.
So from the wording of the bug, it does not occur any more.

However: what actually happens is - nothing.
Using the mouse to drag&drop any of the occurrences of a recurring event to a different time or day still opens the nice dialog asking if the change is to be applied to this event / future events (if not the first occurrence) / all events. But nothing is ever changed in the event.
This in KOrganizer 5.3.0 on Opensuse Tumbleweed.

From an end user's perspective, it still means that modifying recurring events by drag&drop does not work.

Andreas, thanks for reporting back. You are right, I tested it myself. However, I think this should be a separate bug report, since mixing up symptoms of different bugs makes it harder to spot them.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
