i am used to store my pictures chronologically in (sub-)folders.

when sending pictires, i derive a smaller version with my (c); panorama-pictures may get really large- up to 1,8 GB (!!)

gimp 2.6 need about 2 min to open these; digikam (DK) seems to slow down to zero. after half an hour, i kill dk

QUESTION/SUGGESTION
in a sense of easy workflow, it shoud be possible to keep all formats/sizes within certain (sub-)folders.

at this time, DK seems to sleep...

What is your suggestion to avoid this?

test file far too large- what to do???

This file is invalid. Use digiKam 1.2.0 instead and old beta release as 1.0.0-beta5

thanks for the message!

you are right, it would be preferable to install fresh software v 1.2+;
unfortunately, ubuntu 9.10 does offer digikam only 1.0.0.-beta5.

ubuntu is just 2 days "old", it's too risky to install right now.

Lucid Lynx contains 1.2.0. This should also be available for karmic in the backports.

thanks for this hint; i could not find any results when searching for
digikam PLUS backports in ubuntu 9.10 (karmic koala)

do i use the wrong repositories?

i us only the stadard ones, whch are installed from ubuntu
