Version: 2.1 beta 4 (using KDE 4.4.2)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

For \ref there is a pretty nice auto-completion for the label values. I want to have the same for \cite. Here, I insert my references via bibtex and I have to insert the bibitem-keys by hand.
It would be great to have either an auto-completion based on the bibtex file or otherwise an auto-completion based on already used values in \cite commands inside the current document.

Autocompletion for \cite{} commands is already in place. Completion comes from any bibtex file included in the project you are cuurently working on.
Maybe a duplicate of Bug 207590.
