the crash: I've started kmail as usual, and it hanged ... well, except for one special precondition, I usually don't reuse ssh connections, see below: I logged onto the machine via ssh, run kmail closed kmail, logged via kdm, run kmail logged out reused the original ssh connection, run kmail kmail then opened its main window, without asking for kwallet password or whatever an IMAP inbox was selected kmail displayed the contents of the inbox, last but one email was selected but the contents of the selected message was not displayed kmail didn't react to any action - but still, it was able to redraw its window, so not a complete hang I tried to close kmail clicking the close icon in window titlebar it didn't react ... so kwin stepped in and asked me to kill I agreed to kill and this
