Using the feature to browse through archive files (tar.gz in my case), I discovered, that if a recently visited archive file is changed by another application, dolphin does not show these changes, but some old (cached?) version of it.

This is still the case with Dolphin 18.04.3 and KDE Frameworks 5.48, you need to force a refresh with F5 to see the new contents. Moving to kio-extras.
