Description andrew 2010-03-04 21:42:12 UTC
Version: 1.13.1 (using 4.4.1 (KDE 4.4.1), Chakra)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-ARCH

I access my gmail account using kmail via imap. Perhaps due to some quirk in the way gmail does things, all mail appears in one "special" folder which kmail renders with a grey folder icon in the folder view window. It is entitled simply "[Google Mail]". The "regular" folders that I actually use, including the inbox and folders I have created, are rendered blue or with a nice icon.

The problem is that messages marked as read in a regular folder are not also marked as read in the special "[Google Mail]" folder. This means that the number of unread messages kmail indicates in the systray icon is huge and meaningless.

A quick solution would be to allow the user to deselect any folder from the running total shown in the systray. More generally, a more correct handling of gmail/imap would be required. Thunderbird for example doesn't show any message counts for the special "[Google Mail]" folder.

Thanks in advance for considering this issue.

Screen grab showing what I describe in the report

This screen shot shows the tskbar and a part of my kmail window. It should hopefully clarify the report.

In the folder properties deselect "Act on new or unread mail" for the folder.
And in the setting dialog, misc page. Select "Loop in All Marked Folders" for the When trying to find unread messages option.

For the other issue please file a new bug.

Totally neat - the feature is already there. Thanks for poitning it out.

But I have to admit, event if I'd gone looking there I would not have figured that out. What the hell does "act on" mean to the average mail client user? I would have assumed it might have something to do with running filters or autoresponding. The connection to reporting in the systray is pretty non-obvious IMHO.
