Description Kevin Lucas 2010-03-03 17:05:31 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.5)
OS: Linux
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

I have the Weather Forcast Widget on the panel set to Toronto, Ontario with the source Environment Canada. A few days ago I stopped receiving updates to it and now it sits there with a question mark displayed. When I click the widget it displays a message saying "Weather information retrieval for Toronto, ON timed out.

Additionally, I tried searching for other cities using the Environment Canada source by right-clicking the widget and clicking the 'change' button however nothing happens when I click the search button after entering the name of the city.

I've been able to replicate this on 2 different machines both using OpenSUSE 11.2; one the 64 bit version the other the 32 bit version.

At both locations network connectivity was not an issue as other programs could access the network with out trouble.

This may be something that changed on Environment Canada's side.

Cannot reproduce with KDE 4.4.x.

Started working again this morning for me with no change on this side. Must have been something with theirs.

Thanks for taking a look. :)

KDE: 4.4.5
Kubuntu 10.04

I see the "timed out" message on first login and only if I immediately login after booting, if the computer has been sitting at the login screen for a few minutes the weather widget updates without a problem. Perhaps the widget starts before all the background processes it needs have finished loading?

Note this is using 'BBC' Weather' and not 'Environment Canada'.

This can be resolved by going into 'Weather Forecast Settings' and clicking OK without changing anything, alternatively it will sort itself out at the next update interval.

Closing correctly.
