I suppose Virtuoso is rebuilding its index. This will only happen once so I recommend to let it finish. It actually has gotten better now and for a while it ran almost undetectably. But half the time it consumes 30-40 percent of the cpu, and this is even when strigi is idle. Is there a reason why a database should regularly or even sometimes eat up as much power as Doom3? No, it should not use that much CPU when idling away. Which other apps are you running during that time? most of the time its hovering at around 15-25 percent now of user cpu when running no other apps besides the kde desktop preloads. Its usually the most intensive process besides xorg. Ps. By the way Xorg fluctuates between 5-30 % user cpu(average of around 10) with a minimal number of apps open. Is this normal for a pc with these specs? Processor (CPU): Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 540 @ 1.86GHz Speed: 1,862.05 MHz 1 gb ram I'm seeing this too after the 4.4.1 update. It didn't happen in 4.4.0 @A Rojas: and you, too, see high CPU usage while doing nothing? Yes, while indexing is idle Much the same behavior here, but under ArchLinux and SC 4.4.1. (cpu Intel E5400 @2,70 GHz) I did notice lousy responsiveness, specially in Dolphin and krunner. top gave consistent 50-70% CPU usage for virtuoso-t and some 20% additional for several nepomuk services. For all the 4.4.1 lifespan, at least, (installed March,3) strigi has been indexing my 50 Gb partition, and hasn't stopped yet. (As it is my private laptop there are a lot of reboots, but estimate an 3 hour uptime daily average). In this timespan I have downloaded a couple of big -zip and cpio- images (Oracle installation images for various archs), which might count, but ... For the time being i've disabled nepomuk; but I'm available for some test runs as you might please (CET) My software versions KDE 4.4.1-1; strigi 0.7.2-2; soprano 2.4.1-1; virtuoso 6.1.0-1 And btw. (Sebas is probably aware) I've found a number of very similar bugs: 227589 224815 226386 228081 230400 221196 196402 (similar outlook) 219687 as kmail show-stopper ? Whatever is still not solved on 4.4.1 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 246678 *** |
