Description Justus Ranvier 2010-02-27 19:29:33 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.0)
Compiler: gcc 4.3.4
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

When I start a KDE session on a computer other than the NFS server it is unusably slow and continually thrashes the server hard drive. Trying to interact with KDE desktop widgets is virtually impossible due to 20-30 second latencies. Iotop confirms that kconf_update is generating the disk activity.

I tried leaving the session on overnight to see if kconf_update would ever finish but after 14 hours it was still going. Is this expected behavior or is there something that I can do to troubleshoot this?

At some point between when I submitted this bug and now /home on NFS started working for me again. Whether the change is due to the kernel, nfs-utils, or KDE I can not say.

No response; assuming it was fixed since then.
