Version:           3.9.95 (using KDevPlatform 0.9.95) (using 4.4.00 (KDE 4.4.0), Kubuntu packages)

I'm working on files using the Filesystem Tab, opening an FTP folder from KDE "Network" folders, no project open.

Then I can open the tree view and open files, but after some inactivity period, the connection dialog reappears when e.g. opening a previously closed folder.

After that, the server's root directory structure is loaded into the subfolder instead of the selected folder contents.

It seems as if the FTP subsystem doesn't apply the current working folder on reconnection, but instead uses the root folder.

How can this possibly be a ioslave problem ? kio_ftp does not keep any session information and simply retrieves whatever resource it is told to retrieve. It is also not a mystery that connections to remote hosts will be closed after certain period of time when not in use. As such, this is an issue at the application level, i.e. whatever it is that you are using to display filesystem structure in your application. It has nothing to do with kio_ftp. You need to reassign it to the appropriate component.

It seems to me like a KFilePlacesModel problem. Assigning to kdelibs.
