I just want a way to draw a rectangle filled with my selected gradient. Tool options already has a dropdown to choose to fill the rectangle with foreground color / background color / pattern etc, but not gradient.

the problem is positioning the gradient

Maybe after drawing, a temporary tool like the one that lets you position gradients on shapes could appear. On pushing enter, the gradient would rasterize.

Making a selection is slightly less convenient, but works, too.
