so you want the restriction of highlight windows only be available if the list is shown removed? Did I get that correctly? Are you talking about the option "Highlight selected window" in the group box "Display list while switching" ? If yes, this was not what I was talking about, but maybe this is another combination of possibilities to achieve what I mean. Hmm ... for me this option seems to change nothing - at least if I have defined to use "No Effect" or "Box Switch". The combinations here are confusing. In that case I do not understand what you actually want. You want that the window is brought to the front? I think that is only possible in an effect, but not in the no effect case. > > Hmm ... for me this option seems to change nothing - at least if I have defined > to use "No Effect" or "Box Switch". The option requires that the effect "highlight windows" is activated as well. This is guaranteed in case of a fresh install of 4.4, unfortunatelly it was not possible to update the configuration accordingly when coming from 4.3 > You want that the window is brought to the front? Yes, so simple like that. And _without_ a disturbing box on top of it. > The option requires that the effect "highlight windows" is activated as well. Now I don't understand what you mean. There is no effect named "highlight windows" in the "Walk Through Windows" setings. "this option" I was talking about was the "Highlight selected window" option in the group box "Display list while switching". So which other option in addition is required ? (In reply to comment #4) > > You want that the window is brought to the front? > > Yes, so simple like that. And _without_ a disturbing box on top of it. that requires to add an option to boxswitch to not show the box. But I think highlight windows will do exactly what you want - see blow. > > > The option requires that the effect "highlight windows" is activated as well. > > Now I don't understand what you mean. > There is no effect named "highlight windows" in the "Walk Through Windows" > setings. > "this option" I was talking about was the "Highlight selected window" option in > the group box "Display list while switching". So which other option in addition > is required ? It's an effect. So you have to enable it in the "All Effects" tab of the Desktop Effects control module. Yes it is sub optimal, but it was not possible to enable it on upgrade :-( This is implemented in 4.6 It seems there is still a misunderstanding. the main point in my request is not to raise the window, but to not showing the disturbing window list box just above the windows which I actually want to see. I'm running 4.6 RC2 and I only see the option to raise the window but I still get the box above the window (I don't see why the box should be useful as the screenshot inside is much too small to see the content, and I already have the full window in front of me) Or do I miss something ? yes. Set "Effect" to "None", check "highlight selected window" and uncheck "display list while switching" works uncomposited and composited (in the latter case the highlight effect has to be active, no idea whether it's activated implicitly...) - the selected window is raised (resp. all others fade out) and there's no box. kwin configuration 4.6RC2
Sorry to bother you, but in kwin 4.6RC2 (kwin-4.5.95-550.1.i586 openSuse 11.3) there is no "highlight selected window" checkbox and also no "display list while switching". See attached screenshot. ok, forget it ... I found it in a different tab. |
