Description Paul L. 2010-02-16 07:27:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Launching an application as root - in this case, Dolphin - using:

Alt+F2 and type kdesudo dolphin

Prompted for password. Dolphin launches and at the bottom reports:

"The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly."

No folders/files are displayed in any Places location, including users Home.

This problem occurs with other apps launched with kdesudo - that the file protocol dies unexpectedly.

same as ubuve trying to launch eney thing with kdesudo dose not work you get Dolphin or kate or.... but the error "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly." comes up and you can not navagate to(dolphin)or open eney file(kate) as root.

this was not the case in KDE4.3.5 and started after upgrading to KDE4.4.0

pesentley runing on Karmic9.10 KDE4.4.0 kernel-2.6.31-19-generic

Tested kdesudo dolphin this evening, and it is working without the protocol death. Tested it with other GUI applications and they launch properly as well.

Well, after reading vinnywright's comment on this on KFN, I tried a few minutes ago, and he is correct - it still isn't working. I get "The processes for the file protocol died unexpectedly." error again. I don't know why it worked last night and not now.

kdesudo is not an official KDE program, but a Kubuntu one. I suggest that you report the bug at the proper place: https://launchpad.net/kdesudo
And then please close this bug as RESOLVED -> UPSTREAM or whatever.
