Running Debian Testing with the latest version of Digikam (1.1.0). This problem has been around for a while though.

When viewing images in the view mode, and assigning a picture a rating, the cursor icon gets stuck as a cross in the upper thumbnail preview row. It's stuck like this until the meta data seems to have been written to the image.

Also, while it hangs like this, I can not change directories or view other images. In the regular mode where I can assign ratings the "rating process" seems to get queued up properly and I can view other pictures, change directories and rate other pictures meanwhile.

After more research, it seems to be a D90 problem, which also led me to  Bug 224094.

Fixed with bug #192425
