What I was doing when the application crashed:
Appointment notifications in Evolution mail while an extended period of absence do not show up on the taskbar properly. Plasma crashed but the two events are not necessarily linked directly. When I came back to the computer the event notifications were not in the taskbar as they normally are and the crash assistant was open. Evloution mail notifications seem to not work well with plasma task bar anyhow, because when they are clicked closed or 'done' there is always an empty space in the taskbar.
