If the device is unmounted from the notifier, you should already see a busy widget on the right side of the selection; At the moment it's not possible to know when an (un)mount request by another application is being performed, but this is in my todo list for 4.5 ;) I know, but a busywidget should be shown instead of the icon (when the plasmoid is on the panel) too... In 4.5 there is a busywidget instead of the action button whenever the device is being unmounted (even if the request was done by another process). Moreover imho there's no point in showing a busywidget instead of the notifier icon, since the notifier is still usable for devices that are not being unmounted at the moment. Sooo, I guess this will be a wontfix, unless you have some other idea Waiting for feedback… Closing for lack of feedback.
