When images are stacked, it'd be useful to be able to show the number of images in the stack without opening the stack.

I understand that everyone might not like this (for example when hiding just different file types of the same image) so maybe set a trigger level for this in the config? If more than X images in a stack, show the number of images on the thumbnail?

Display collapsed stack size

If a stack is collapsed, display the stack size just above and left of the stack indicator in the thumbnail view.
